Friends of Unruh is a small group of people who have come together to publish a project Jack Unruh had been passionate about for years. As you may know, Jack recently passed away after struggling with cancer. For some time he had wanted to publish pages from the journals that accompanied his many hunting and fishing trips.
Jack Summerford has designed a beautiful book that incorporates pages from Unruh’s journals, as well as personal pieces stemming from sketches in the journals. Summerford started designing the book with Unruh while he was still able to participate in the book’s concept and layout.
“Jack Unruh’s journal contains his favorite selections from a lifetime’s worth of hunting and fishing. It’s a book by a great illustrator with a vivid awareness of — and thankfulness for — the gift of being alive.”

Herring Press is producing the book pro-bono. The 11 x 14 inch vertical, full-color, hardbound book with over 200 pages will be available this winter. To cover the scanning and printing costs, a Special Edition was produced and is now sold out.
You may now pre-order the book that will be available this fall. The price of the book is $75. After sales of the regular edition have covered the remaining costs, all further proceeds will go into a scholarship fund Jack has established at Washington University in St. Louis, Unruh’s alma mater, in gratitude for the start it provided him in his career. Memorial gifts will also be directed to this fund.
